A Message from Alexander Neef, General Director of the Paris Opera & Ballet to the Spectators of the Paris Opera in light of the upcoming lockdown from October 30 to December 1, 2020.
Following the Government’s decision to close establishments receiving the public as of midnight on October 30, and for a period of a month, the Paris Opera is unfortunately compelled, once again, to alter its programs and activities.
Over the period concerned by these measures, from October 30 to December 1, all performances scheduled in our theatres are cancelled. Visits to the Palais Garnier are also suspended.
Nevertheless, we are making every effort to be in a position to resume performances as soon as we are authorised to do so. Rehearsals for performances scheduled in December will continue as of the following weeks. We thus hope to be able to perform and offer an audiovisual screening of Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle by the end of November. We are also looking into the possibility of presenting this cycle at the Radio France Auditorium, at the beginning of December, as well of rescheduling by the end of the year the ballet Chorégraphes contemporains, créer aujourd’hui which was due to start on 4 November.
We will keep you informed as soon as possible of the measures taken for each of the productions due to run this autumn.
The artists and all the vital forces of the Paris Opera, who have been so very happy to see you back since September, join me today in expressing their sadness at seeing this bond once again disrupted, and their determination to keep it alive.
I sincerely hope to be able to welcome you to our theatres at the end of the lockdown and wish you continued good health.
Alexander Neef
Managing Director
