The American Friends of the Paris Opera & Ballet and the Paris Opera announce the resignation of Gustavo Dudamel as the Paris Opera Music Director for personal reasons, effective at the end of the 22/23 season.
The Paris Opera announced this morning the resignation of Gustavo Dudamel as Music Director for personal reasons, effective at the end of the 22/23 season.
Alexander Neef, the Paris Opera General Manager, acknowledges and respects Dudamel’s decision. He intends to take the necessary time to carefully consider the selection of Dudamel’s successor, recognizing the significance of this role in upholding the institution’s esteemed reputation.
In the coming weeks, the Paris Opera will communicate about the 23/24 season shows that had been planned with Gustavo Dudamel’s involvement.

Lyrical Season:
Twenty opera productions, including eight new productions, forceful heroines, potent tragediennes, saviors or anti-heroes: the characters of the 2023/2024 season, diverse as they are, reflect the range of human emotions at play in the operatic repertoire. Emotions that the public is invited to share in this new 2023/2024 season.
Choreographic season:
The new season will open with a landmark production: the creations of two choreographers making their Paris Opera debuts, Marion Motin and Xie Xin, alongside Crystal Pite’s now iconic Seasons’ Canon. The season’s opening reflects 2023/2024’s eclectic and virtuoso programming, which will allow dancers to express a wide range of technical and aesthetic styles.
