Projects in Detail

Project

The Paris Opera Academy

The missions of the Paris Opera Academy are defined around three axes: transmitting, training, creating.

Focused on  professional training and artistic education, the Paris Opera Academy strives to accompany young artists and craftspeople in learning their art. Creation is the goal and the outcome. Stage directors and choreographers from different backgrounds are invited to offer a new reading of repertoire works, both for artists and craftspeople in residence and for students, as part of their artistic and cultural education

ARTS EDUCATION

Outreach Programs

Dix Mois d’Ecole et d’Opéra–“Ten Months of School and Opera“– is an educational and cultural program. It offers a curriculum of 33 courses over two years to build projects around the discovery of ballet and opera. It also proposes a workshop of excellence for two violin programs and one dance class.

Project

Summer Intensive
Program

Launched by the Paris Opera Ballet School in 2013, the Summer Intensive Program hosts every year almost 300 young dancers from all over the world to discover the French ballet technique.

Since 2016, a reciprocal program allows young dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet School to participate in the Summer Program in schools all over the world including at the San Francisco Ballet School, the Boston Ballet School, the Houston Ballet School, and Northwest Pacific School in the United States. From its creation, AFPOB has supported this program by providing scholarships to French and American students.

About

The Paris Opera Ballet School

The Paris Opera Ballet School is an experience that transcends far beyond a two-week program. Many alumni of these programs, who received support through the AFPOB Scholarship Program, have continued into professional positions as dancers. Our commitment to supporting talented young dancers regardless of their background or financial circumstances means that nothing stands in the way of a student’s dream of a professional career in dance.

Summer Intensive Program in Key Numbers
  • 2019: 295 students (more than 800 applications received)
  • More than 50% foreign students every year represent more than 50 different nationalities. 30% of them are Americans.
  • Scholarships granted by AFPOB: 7 scholarships to American students (to participate in the Paris Opera Summer Intensive Program) and 2 full scholarships awarded to French students (to attend San Francisco Ballet School)
Special Covid-19 Situation

In light of Covid-19, the 2020 Summer Intensive Program was canceled in Paris and in most of American ballet schools. Looking ahead, AFPOB plans on continuing its mission to support the French American cultural exchange by providing scholarships to young dancers.

“I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to dance amongst incredible talents and learn from the Paris Opera Ballet School world-renowned teachers. I would like to thank everyone at the AFPOB for helping me to be a part of the program.”
